ROTARY EVAPORATORS

One of the most recognizable features of a R&D and production laboratory is the rotary evaporator.  A specialized, high-efficiency tool for the recovery of solvents, they are designed to offer the chemist reliable distillations project to project.

Sizes:

1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200L

Process temperature range:

-40 °C to 200 °C

Pressure/vacuum range:

<10^-2 torr to >1bar

These systems rely on a rotating flask full of solvent and product.  The rotation causes a thin film to form on the flask, promoting distillation while also agitating the bulk of the liquid.  This mixture is heated by a bath that the flask rests in.  The bath is a critical element in supporting larger flasks on industrial systems.

Rotary are able to achieve significant vacuums below 1 torr, allowing for sensitive, low temperature and high-efficiency bulk distillations.  The concise, well-integrated system makes for precisely controlled and consistent vacuum.

Integrating these parts with an upright coil condenser, creates a powerful system that is self-cold trapped, reducing solvent losses and adding an additional safety factor.

Used in a range of industries for decades, the rotary evaporator remains a go-to for small & large solvent distillations as well as organic extractions.  As a standalone unit, or backing up a falling film, or fronting a thin film evaporator, rotary has a place in nearly every lab to address solvent content down to 1%.

Apical can take a look at your goals and prepare you for the future by implementing the right equipment and making the most of your time.

A1-RE Rain Series

The APICAL A1-RE Rain series consists of industrial rotary evaporators for compliant processing of bulk solvents under vacuum conditions. Operators enjoy the precise control and high throughput while owners rely on the durability, product consistency and protection against contamination Apical systems offer.

Intended to perform reduced temperature distillations, these systems are workhorses for general laboratory solvent recovery in R&D and commercialized processes.

The APICAL A1-RE Rain series ranges in size from 50, 100, & 200L systems. 1, 5, 10 & 20L systems are also available from our trusted partners at EYELA. With solvent recovery throughputs from 200mL/hour to over 100,000mL/hour, Apical has the flexibility to fit systems to your scenario without compromise.

And, with our systems being built to c/EU-GMP and FDA standards, we remain conscious of OSHA safety guidelines. Apical ensures the safety of your operators with the addition of insulation, warning labels, low pressure heat transfer fluids, shielding and comprehensive training.

All ancillary glassware, motors, temperature control and pumps scale appropriately.

Apical has taken years of validated field experience and product trials to develop practical technologies that work every day. We combine academic principles with cutting-edge design to provide equipment that can be relied on for years to come with safe, easy operation, high throughputs and consistent product.

These systems utilize large tubing to ensure an unimpeded vapor path which is critical to maintaining deep vacuum at the process rather than just at the pump.

With that, the internal condenser is sized to carry the full capacity of distilled botanical oil vapors under the increased efficiency these deeper vacuum conditions allow.

Scaling these dimensions appropriately is one of the keys to high throughputs, successful process development and efficient commercialization.

No myths about residence time, degradation or physics, no designs with built-in obsolescence, no exaggerations about system capabilities or pay-to-play obstacles to efficient processing.

Apical has tested a wide range of designs under production settings to pierce the veil and remove the mystique around botanical distillations so business operators can focus on the customer and not a daily headache.

APICAL A1-RE Rain Series features:

  • Ensure leak-free fitment and ultimate vacuum potential for the system.

  • Ensures a good joint seal, system longevity and high-purity.

  • Triple-coil, high surface area system supported by a high-flower chiller.

  • Captures light molecular compounds like terpenes and aromatic residual solvents while protecting the pump and reducing maintenance.

  • Reduces impedance on vapor path which improves vacuum depth and overall throughput.

  • Tubing where hot liquid can potentially pass or collect is vacuum insulated to prevent touch burns.

  • Fitted for deep-vacuum, durability and easy assembly/disassembly, these junctures are fitted with PTFE centering rings & composite clamps.

  • Reflux of common solvents keeps systems looking and performing brand new for years to come.

  • Loaded solvent is preheated before being metered into the system to ensure the highest and most consistent distillation rates.

  • Recovered solvent can be continuously ejected from the system while in production.
